Mr. Frederick - Shopkeeper

Preferring to simply call himself Mr. Frederick, Florian "Frederick" Fréderodel-Ilphilkoor once spent a lifetime as an adventurer before taking all of his acquired treasure, a literal dragon's hoard, and settled down. He set himself up as a storekeeper, selling the goods he acquired on his adventures under the tag of The Fantastic Finds of Mr. Frederick.

Eladrin in Dungeon Master’s Guide by WotC, Art Inspiration for Mr. Frederick

Physical Description

With colorful clothes and an easy grin, Mr. Frederick embodies a care-free attitude and restless energy. With gregarious grace, he seems to be in constant motion, unable to stay in one spot for long.

Backstory

Born to the faerie plane, Mr. Frederick found living in idyllic cities with his family to be too constraining. By the time he turned 70, he had left his eladrin home and began his career of adventuring, utilizing his knowledge of the arcane to protect him and springboard himself to greatness. After decades, Mr. Frederick had accumulated a vast hoard of treasure and had even claimed an evil dragon's hoard before realizing he had no idea what to do. At that point, he decided he should take his family's advice and settle down. Finding a fine city in Aurora, he set up The Fantastic Finds of Mr. Frederick, where he sells art, gems, and magical items he found on his travels.

Constant Change

Mr. Frederick is never one to sit still and finds being a shop owner to be much harder than he thought. He must sit there for days on end, politely chatting with customers, and dusting his goods. While he thinks about heading out into the world again on adventures, he isn't yet ready to give up his self-imposed rule, he must be a shopkeeper for at least 15 years, only after that time will he know if it is for him or not.

To try and keep some excitement in his life, he wakes up everyday with a new season. Every day, roll a d4.
1. Summer. He is happy and joyful, though now he does his work slowly as he is prone to fits of daydreaming.
2. Fall. Crisp, brisk, and to the point, Mr. Frederick handles his business quickly. He gives in to his desire for exhilarating jewelry and daring outfits during this season.
3. Winter. The theater best describes his presence during this season, sticking to dark clothes and mysterious words of warning to all his customers.
4. Spring. Many would find Mr. Frederick quite the flirt during this season as he flits from topic to topic, his clothes in an array of colors that are a delight to the eyes.

Quick Reference Traits

Personality Traits. Mr. Frederick is filled with constant wanderlust and loves to be the center of attention.
Ideals. He values any who sees the world differently.
Bonds. Mr. Frederick values his freedom and hates being tied down.
Flaws. He falls deeply into whatever season he assumes that day, unable to dig himself out of it until a new season.

Adventure Hooks

  1. Mr. Frederick has heard of a pack of cockatrice in the area, and offers a reward for anyone who brings him the feathers.

  2. Growing bored as a shopkeeper, Mr. Frederick is looking for some entertainment. Anyone who brings him some excitement is sure to get a good magic item.

  3. Mr. Frederick is wondering where his most recent stock of items he ordered is located. He fears that something happened to his deliverers and asks some adventurers to investigate in exchange for a discount.

Raja Bhorvei - Master Thief

Raja is one of the premier safecrackers of his time. A mason by trade, he uses his masonry business as a cover and is well respected and quite good at his day job. Raja has constructed numerous businesses throughout the land, including governmental offices, banks, and vaults for wealthy merchants. He never robs from a place or individual he has done mason work for, instead, using such a job to seek out weaknesses in similar structures that he can exploit at another location.

Loxodon Monk by Matt Hilker, Art Inspiration for Raja

Physical Description

Raja is an average height for a loxodon, standing at 6 feet 7 inches tall. His skin is a deeper gray color than many of his race, and after years of working with stone, his trunk and hands are pretty rough and covered in barely noticeable tiny scars. His tusks have a deeper curve than most, allowing him to effortlessly carry large blocks of stone.

Backstory

Born to a family with a long and storied history as fine masons, Raja knew from an early age what his destiny was. After apprenticing under his father's tutelage from the age of 20 till the age of 60, Raja took over the family business nearly a decade ago. Raja loves working with stone. He appreciates the strength and hardness of granite and quartzite, the malleability of limestone and slate, and learning how to shape and place such minerals to maximize their use.

Unbeknownst to his family was that Raja was learning additional skills in the arts of thievery during this time. Raja loved being a mason, but it was not his passion as it had been for many of the Bhorvei before him. He craved some excitement in his life, and the rush of working under pressure to crack a safe or open a vault provided him with the thrill he was looking for.

Raja's talents are in great demand among those involved in such illicit activities, but he is cautious in which jobs he agrees to take. His public reputation is essential to him, but so is his standing as one of the premier safecrackers. A simple wall safe in a merchant's home is beneath his skillset, but he will take a long look at working with a crew that goes up against any device of dwarven construction.

Quick Reference Traits

Personality Traits. Raja is the strong, silent type but is less reserved with those he knows well and trusts.
Ideals. Raja spends more time watching than talking. He studies both people and stone in great detail before interacting with them.
Bonds. Raja is close to his family but few outside the Bhorvei herd.
Flaws. Raja, while cautious, cannot help take on an 'impossible' job to quench his need for excitement.

Adventure Hooks

  1. Raja turned down a job recently, upsetting a local crime boss. He needs protection against the gang.

  2. Raja just completed the biggest score of his career and needs someone to transport a valuable item to his fence.

  3. Raja has come into a lucrative job, but his typical associates are either working the same score or in jail. He's looking for a crew to help him pull off the job.

  4. Someone's safe Raja broke into is coming after him. He needs the party to find out who told them and work out an agreement that doesn't involve him getting killed.
