Ervis Black - Fiend Summoner
Mistreated and disrespected all of his life, Ervis is seeking revenge against all the world for their crimes against him. To further his revenge, he has made infernal pacts with devils to grant him greater power.
Physical Description
Ervis is a balding halfing with whisps of white hair on the side of his head and long scars around his scalp. He wears deep, rich red and black robes and has a gleam in his eyes that isn't wholly kind.
Backstory
As a small halfling, Ervis has had to deal with a lot of jokes at his expense ever since he was of school age. He let his fury stew for years as he grew older, knowing deep in his heart that he was far smarter than his peers who teased and mocked him. He thought that their mocking would end when he began his journeymanship with the Canalside Hospital, but even there he was mocked for his size, at least in his ears.
As the years passed, and he became a surgeon, his temper was too much for the hospital to deal with so they fired him. For a while, he worked at the Hills Mental Asylum, the only place that would hire him, where he performed mundane surgeries to help the patients there. While the asylum was very grateful to have someone of his expertise, his temper never went away and so the staff never tried to be his friend.
A few years back, the Hills Mental Asylum was forced to close down when it came to light the foul experiments that Ervis had been committing on the patients, many of them were even secret to the board of directors. Ervis was quickly denounced by the asylum, though they still were forced to close.
With no job, disgraced within the medical committee, and no hope of ever being a doctor again, Ervis disappeared within his home in Canal Hill, maintaining his meager lifestyle by treating the locals of their minor cuts and bruises. During this time, he began looking for ways to get revenge on those who wronged him, which eventually led him to study devils and deals.
Quick Reference Traits
Personality Traits. Knowledge can never be forbidden.
Ideals. Ervis believes his research is what's best for the world, no matter what others think.
Bonds. Ervis is tied to the devils he has pacts with.
Flaws. Ervis sees rivals in everyone.
Adventure Hooks
Ervis has made a pact with a strange devil that leaps and springs through the city, attacking the city's citizens and harvesting special organs for some sort of ritual.
Ervis has created life! Or, at least, flesh golems. He knows he is so close and is digging up bodies for his experiments.
Unhappy with dead bodies, Ervis has gone back to experimenting on living creatures without their consent. These experiments have left many with odd mutations and stories of pain and torture.
Perris Jaznet - Card Gambler
Perris always looks for a good card game but will settle for any other game of chance. He tries to keep a low profile in whatever city or town he is in but has had to leave many a locale in a hurry after taking an opponent for every coin they have. Perris never cheats and abhors those that try such underhanded methods.
Physical Description
Perris is a spry, 4-foot tall Harengon. His fur is soft and off-white, except for his long ears, which have green, ivory, and yellow streaks. An incredibly sharp dresser, Perris typically wears one of his many paisley silk vests, specially designed to hold the multiple daggers and unique deck of cards he always has on his person.
Backstory
Perris was born in the land of the Fey. He reveled in the decadent mischievous lifestyle that so many of its inhabitants encouraged. One might say he had a misspent youth, but Perris would argue otherwise. His formative years allowed him to hone his skills without facing judgment from those who would disapprove of his gambling ways. Some may think that playing cards is a vice that should not be encouraged, but for Perris, it is an occupation and one that he is quite good at.
Perris now travels the Planes in search of his next game, always on the lookout for a table of big money behind which are players with little skill. When he sits down, his goal is simple. Win as much as he can, as quickly as he can. Perris will then move on, lest he becomes the target of someone's ire. These games keep Perris in the lifestyle he has grown accustomed to. While not lavish, Perris has a taste for the finer things in life, whether food, wine, or clothing.
These games also fund Perris's main desire; the chance to sit amongst the best players in the Planes. Since such games require huge buy-ins, most players have a backer with whom they split the payout. Perris would never be tied to such an arrangement. He sees himself as too much a free spirit to be tethered to anyone else.
Quick Reference Traits
Personality Traits. You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to run.
Ideals. Gambling is an honorable profession and should be respected as such.
Bonds. He is always searching for the next game with opponents that challenge him.
Flaws. Can be overconfident when playing games of chance.
Adventure Hooks
Perris won a royal family heirloom from a particular poor card-playing prince. In an attempt to save face, the prince claims Perris cheated. Perris needs protection from the city guard and a way to plead his case to the King before he is thrown in jail... or worse.
Perris is playing in an underground game with the highest stake of his career. He fears what may happen when he takes the other player's money and wants to hire the party as his bodyguard.
