Encounter Roles & Unique Creatures
A hunter and an archaeologist shouldn’t have the same stat block. That’s why each stat block within this book is unique and engaging. NPCs are given special powers and abilities so that when your adventuring party is facing them down, they’ll feel as if they are actually fighting a frenzied barbarian, an exiled noble, or a poacher in the dark forest.
Not only does each creature have special abilities, they are also given defined roles to enhance your combat encounters. These roles help the Game Master create incredible and exciting encounters, offering suggestions on how to utilize each NPC before the encounter has even started.
Encounter Roles include Artillery, Berserker, Brute, Cavalier, Controller, Leader, Lurker, Skirmisher, Soldier, and Spellcaster.
In addition, some creatures span multiple roles and have a Hybrid Role, allowing them to work in multiple roles even during an encounter.
A Wilderness of NPCs
This module features over 92 Wilds-themed NPCs spanning CR 1/8 to CR 20. So whether your party has yet to defeat their first bandit or they are taking on the gods, there are appropriate rivals and enemies they can encounter in the city.
Broken into 20 categories, you can easily flip through the book and find the stat block that you need immediately. Each category features between 4 to 8 NPCs spread across multiple challenge ratings, so you always have someone you can use, regardless of party level.
The categories are: Arctic, Bandits, Barbarian, Battlefield, Caravan, Catfolk, Desert, Druids, Exiled, Experts, Explorers, Forest, Giants, Hunters, Oracles, Plains, Rangers, Settlers, Slayers, and Wardens.
Heroes & Villains
Of course, the Wilds aren’t just stocked with bandits and thieves. There are forceful personalities and powerful villains that seek to control the Wilds.
That’s why we provide 10 fully detailed Heroes & Villains, complete with intricate backstories, personalities, quest hooks, and unique magic items for each one.
These Heroes & Villains include a desert king, a riverboat captain with a dark secret, an arctic explorer, and more!
