Genna Flagstaff (Merchant) & Pilar Gudmund (Innkeeper)
Genna Flagstaff - Merchant
Genna operates a small specialty import/export company. Her goal is to become the premier boutique business in this field, handling mainly high-end products for an exclusive clientele. She has earned a reputation among many of the wealthy merchants as someone that can procure rare items, deliver them safely and on time.
She is not above bribing those authorities who stand in the way of her successfully completing a job, but she will never deal in the transfer of illegal goods. While her business is still small compared to her local competitors, she has made headway in acquiring some of their high-end business.
Physical Description
Genna is a generous 5 feet 2 inches in height. Her short hair is mostly black, but a bit of gray is starting to appear even though she is only in her early 30's. Always dressed in a professional yet understated manner, she doesn't wear jewelry and avoids dressing in bright colors. This professional dress also hides the fact that she is still in great shape, as she works to maintain the same physical prowess from her previous life.
Backstory
An only child, Genna grew up in a loving family who had to scrape by more often than not. She wasn't poor, but her parents both worked six days a week to make ends meet. In her teen years she took it upon herself to help her family financially whatever way she could. While working with a group of entertainers in the theater district, her natural grace and dexterity was noticed by a small crew of criminals in need of an individual who could do second story work.
She worked with that crew for over a decade. Realizing that her work will mostly likely end up with her in jail or worse, she decided to go straight and leave the criminal underworld. She moved across the continent to start anew and set up her own business.
Genna never talks about her past as some of the clients she now works with are relatives or even targets of her old life. Using the contacts she made over the years, Genna has been able to acquire hard to find artifacts for wealthy merchants and nobles.
Quick Reference Traits
Personality Traits. Genna comes across as very personable and can be quite charming, especially when there is a deal to be made. She is not easily intimidated by others.
Ideals. Genna doesn't want others to interfere with her life, and stays out of other people's unless she has a strong bond with them.
Bonds. Genna built her business on her own and will do whatever it takes to protect it.
Flaws. Criminal history. Genna worked as a thief, specializing in second story work.
Adventure Hooks
Genna wishes to hire the party to transport an item of substantial value. It is her biggest contract to date and will help establish her business as the premier boutique company in the import/export business.
Genna's former employers have been attempting to strong arm her into working with them. She needs someone to convince them to leave her alone, by any means necessary.
Inside information has come her way on a heist involving one of her best customers. The party can either provide protection or attempt to retrieve the stolen items.
One of Genna's clients is refusing to pay for services rendered. She would like the party to either obtain her fee or return the unpaid item to her.
Pilar Gudmund - Innkeeper
Operating the Wisp's Inn located in the small town of Elil, Pilar Gudmund was once an adventurer before a grievous injury shattered the bones in his left leg. With an adventuring career ended, he sold off his gear and bought the old Wisp's Inn. While he still dreams of his time adventuring, it's been almost 13 years since he last drew his longsword in anger.
Physical Description
Standing just over six feet tall, Pilar is a burly man, especially as most half-elves are typically lithe from their elven heritage. With a shock of black hair, he appears to be no more than 40 years old. He wears an old leather smock coated in stains from cooking and serving food and has a terse smile for any who enters his inn. With a loud baritone voice, he can quickly silence a loud room.
Backstory
Pilar is not originally from Elil, but rather first came here over 17 years ago. For 4 years, he would come and go from this small village, taking on odd jobs here and there as an adventurer, caravan guard, and more. He could never really decide why he liked Elil so much, especially since he had originally become an adventurer to escape the small fishing village of Lech where he grew up. Unfortunately for Pilar, 13 years ago he took on a rather hideous and smelly ogre in the Boglach who was a lot faster than he thought. The first hit from the club smashed into his left leg, shattering most of the bones in it. While Pilar was able to limp quickly away, as the ogre was too big to squeeze between the underbrush quickly, his injury never fully healed and he was forced to give up adventuring.
To that end, he sold almost all of his adventuring equipment, except for his sword. He then bought the Wisp's Inn, a favorite tavern of his in Elil, from his old friend Jarlath who was looking for an excuse to retire. He still has his longsword, hanging over the mantle, but he hasn't had an excuse to use that sword in a fight since the encounter with the ogre.
Pilar's Blade
This blade has a small enchantment, though it only ever activated when it wanted to, at least, according to Pilar. Once per day, if the wielder of this sword makes an attack and rolls a 20 on the d20, they gain a +1 bonus to their Armor Class for 1 minute.
Quick Reference Traits
Personality Traits. Pilar likes to revisit his memories of being an adventurer, giving advice to any who appear unseasoned in his eyes.
Ideals. Hard work brings us closer to our ultimate goal, no matter how menial that work is.
Bonds. Pilar is grateful to the town of Elil and will protect it with his life if need be.
Flaws. He is still under the impression that he has the physique of an adventurer and takes many risks.
Adventure Hooks
Pilar Gudmund heard that the captain of the guard is offering a reward to any bands of adventurers that deal with the goblins in the Boglach, a massive swamp that Elil sits along the edge of. The goblins are ruled over by a mean goblin who has taken the name Snaggletooth.
There is a rumor he had heard that deep in the Spine mountains there is an abandoned treasure hoard. A dragon slayer went to fight the green dragon that owned it, but neither has been heard of in over a dozen years.
Strange lights with skulls floating in them have been seen out in the nearby swamps, whispering of ancient tombs that have sunk into the Boglach.
While Pilar isn't sure if the ogre who smashed his leg is still alive, he's willing to pay good money and give his sword to whoever kills it. The ogre is missing an eye and had an extra finger on its left hand.
