The Dota Project - NPC Heroes
Today’s post is going to be quite short due to some family issues. This week we are going to create some NPC’s from our friendly neighborhood DotA heroes. I’m going to say I can get away with doing this on the Player’s Perspective page since the word player is part of Non Player Character. Sure it’s a stretch but I’m going to roll with it. There are four converted heroes that can be found in the links below: Axe, Vengeful Spirit, Sven, and Spirit Breaker.
As I’m only going to do one breakout here, Axe was the logical first choice as he is everyone’s favorite screaming red guy. Axe’s lore is as follows:
As a grunt in the Army of Red Mist, Mogul Khan set his sights on the rank of Red Mist General. In battle after battle he proved his worth through gory deed. His rise through the ranks was helped by the fact that he never hesitated to decapitate a superior. Through the seven year Campaign of the Thousand Tarns, he distinguished himself in glorious carnage, his star of fame shining ever brighter, while the number of comrades in arms steadily dwindled. On the night of ultimate victory, Axe declared himself the new Red Mist General, and took on the ultimate title of 'Axe.' But his troops now numbered zero. Of course, many had died in battle, but a significant number had also fallen to Axe's blade. Needless to say, most soldiers now shun his leadership. But this matters not a whit to Axe, who knows that a one-man army is by far the best.
While not quite able to incorporate all of axe’s abilities into the NPC, I was able to get relatively close. First off, Axe wields, no surprisingly, a giant battle axe. He gets three swings with it each turn. If he manages to land all three attacks on you, it’s going to hurt.
Battle Hunger doesn’t do damage over time, but it does reduce the amount of damage they can inflict. Axe targets one creature it can see within 10 feet of it. The target must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target's speed is halved and it can't make more than one attack on its turn. These effects last for 1 minute. A target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Counter Helix is a massive cleave style action Axe can take. He makes a sweeping attack with his battleaxe. Each creature within 5 feet of him must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 11 points of damage and is knocked prone on a failed save, or is not knocked prone and takes half damage on a success.
Culling Blade is Axe’s ultimate ability. If Axe successfully hits a creature that has 20 or fewer hit points, he deals double damage. If the damage then reduces the creature to 0 hit points, the creature dies. You’ll have to roleplay jumping into the air and slicing your victim in two
