Q&A with Chat GPT

Chat GPT, as well as other AI programs, have taken the world by storm. Everyone is asking our soon-to-be AI overlords all sorts of questions, from what quantum physics is to what crayons taste like. I decided to ask Chat GPT a relatively straightforward question regarding D&D:

What is the most fun class to play in Dungeons and Dragons?

The all-knowing artificial intelligence gave some interesting feedback, complete with its top classes that, according to Skynet…I mean, Chat GPT is the most 'fun' to play. Let's take a look at what it had to say.

There is no one "most fun" class to play in Dungeons and Dragons, as everyone has their own preferences and playstyles. Ultimately, the most fun class to play will depend on your personal preferences and playstyle. It's a good idea to try out a few different classes to see which one you enjoy the most! However, here are some classes that are often considered to be particularly enjoyable:

The first sentence is perfect, but like most humans, our AI friend has to give their opinion and ruin the sentiment. It continues to say the best character is the one you like, but this feels like it's trying to cover its ass. Maybe it's just me, but when you ask AI for its opinion, it never wants to give a strong opinion. In a way, it is a nice change since everyone on the internet has strong opinions. Too many people spend too much time sharing them by screaming into the void, trying to convince you they are right.

I've said many times before; there is no best or worst class. Play what you want, build your character how you want to, and have fun. Each class has positive and negative things about it, so if you ask me, there is no "best" class. But we aren't asking me. We're asking our AI overlords.

Bard: Bards are versatile characters who can use magic and weapons, and they have many options for supporting their allies and dealing damage to enemies. They also have a unique ability to inspire their allies with music and storytelling.

Solid, if not the safest, choice to start off with. The Bard is the ultimate skill monkey character, giving you a chance to do some of everything. It can be a bit daunting for a newer player, but it allows them to stab things with a sword and cast spells if they choose. Experienced players can manage these abilities to become a dominant force on the battlefield.

It's starting, and, dare I say, core abilities are some of the best out there. Vicious Mockery is an underrated cantrip. People tend to dismiss it because of the low amount of damage it does (1d4), but the damage is psychic, very few creatures are resistant to it, and the spell imposes a disadvantage on the next attack. Bardic Inspiration is one of the best class bonus actions out there. The college selections are good, and your spell selection increases at higher levels. On top of all this, you can also play a mean lute.

Rogue: Rogues are sneaky and agile characters who excel at stealing, disarming traps, and dealing sneak attacks to their enemies. They also have a lot of skills and abilities that make them great for roleplaying and social encounters.

I love the rogue, but not for most of the above reasons. GPT likes the class because of its ability to disarm traps and steal stuff and the ease with which its skills allow for fun roleplay. My problem is that, besides roleplaying, rogues don't spend much time pickpocketing or using their thieves' tools to ensure poison darts don't hit you in the face.

Most rogues spend their time putting themselves into position to sneak attack. While I agree the rogue has several fantastic qualities, sneak attack is the main reason people play the class. I enjoy going arcane trickster, casting spells, and doing dumb stuff. I guess that's what our AI meant by great roleplaying encounters.

Barbarian: Barbarians are tough and powerful characters who excel at dealing melee damage and soaking up hits from enemies. They also have a unique rage ability that allows them to fight even harder when they get angry.

Not sure how I feel about this choice. Don't get me wrong, I love the barbarian class, but I wonder why the AI went in this direction instead of a fighter. I know, I know; everyone loves to rage and put their fist through a poor kobold's face. Personally, I feel that your options are limited as you level up. Fighter provides players with many options on their way to the 20th level. Maybe I like having the chance to choose how to bash my enemies to death.

This brings us full circle. Just because AI thinks it's a great class doesn't mean I have to. It's all about personal choice, and we should embrace it. I recommend doing so, especially since Skynet will shortly rob us of that opportunity.
