Creating the Big Top for "The Wild Beyond The Witchlight"

Creating the Big Top for "The Wild Beyond The Witchlight"

Hi Dump Stat readers, I’m Anne van Stormbroek aka Hasel. You might remember me from my article about maps. Dump Stat is welcoming me as a guest artist once more. I come from a creative family and graduated art school in 2013. My boyfriend so kindly suggested filming me while I created a circus tent for my friend Michiel. He will be DMing Wild beyond the Witchlight for me and friends. I know how much work goes into preparing a campaign, so I wanted to show my appreciation!

This is a video diary of how I made it. I hope to inspire others to craft props for their tables as well.

Material List

Cardboard box
Wood
Cotton fabric and thread
Acrylic paint
Paper
Glue

After making the tent for Michiel I decided I wanted to make one for myself too. I really like weathering things so I went nuts and made Circus Sordida: a rundown gross circus with a mean boss, to use for a one-shot where my players can try to set free the poor circus beasts. There’s a lot of different things you can do with just a box as a base, and as a plus you can use it to store miniatures or smaller props in them.
